Join us in Banff and Jasper National Parks for a week of photographing the landscapes and wildlife of the Canadian Rockies during the fall season.

We’ll travel along the Icefields Parkway, one of the most scenic drives in the Canadian Rockies, with opportunities to photograph mountain landscapes, rivers, waterfalls, canyons, lakes, reflections, and the fall color of aspens and cottonwoods.

These two parks offer outstanding opportunities for wildlife photography, especially in the fall. We’ll be visiting during the elk and moose rut, a great time to photograph courtship, territorial displays, sparring, and other seasonal behavior. Elk may be bugling, sparring, and gathering cows, while moose are also active during their breeding season.

Other wildlife we may photograph includes bighorn sheep, mountain goats, coyotes, and bears. Many mammals will be growing their thick winter coats as they prepare for the colder months ahead. We’ll also watch for trumpeter swans, great gray owls, and other bird species.

Our itinerary will remain flexible based on recent wildlife activity, lighting, and weather conditions, allowing us to make the most of each day’s photography opportunities. Along the way, we’ll experience the beauty of the parks in autumn and photograph the wildlife and landscapes that make this ecosystem so remarkable.

WHERE
Canadian Rockies (Banff, Jasper, Icefields Parkway, and more surprises). The tour will meet in Calgary. There is no need to rent a car.

GROUP SIZE
With a small group and two photography leaders, you’ll receive plenty of personal attention and one-on-one instruction throughout the tour.

Note: This tour involves both wildlife and landscape photography. Participants should have a strong interest in both.

SKILL & FITNESS LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

• Anyone with an interest in photography, from beginner to professional.

• The participants should have a love of nature and enjoy the company of other people in a small group setting.

• This trip will involve some short hikes from 1 to 3 miles round-trip. Some hikes may have slippery or uneven terrain.

• Participants should be in good health and self-sufficient.

• Participants should be interested in both wildlife and landscape photography.

PRICE INCLUDES

• The hotels are included in this tour (7-night stay starting Sept 18). The rooms are double occupancy. If you prefer your own room (single occupancy), it is an additional $400. Please select the Single Room option in the shopping cart if you want your own room.

• Gate fees and permits

• Professional Instruction on photography, wildlife identification, and behavior

NOT INCLUDED

• Food and drinks are not included. We will visit various restaurants in and out of the park. Each participant will be responsible for their own food tab.

• Air travel is NOT included.

John Slonina is a professional nature photographer with more than 35 years of experience. He has spent years photographing the Canadian Rockies and brings a deep understanding of the region’s landscapes, wildlife, and light. During the workshop, he shares not only photography techniques but also insights into working in these environments. This added perspective helps participants grow as photographers while making the most of each opportunity in the field.

Jenny Bowlden (co-leader)
Jenny Bowlden is a professional nature photographer with over 20 years of experience photographing landscapes and wildlife across North America, including the Canadian Rockies. She has spent time working the region’s mountain light, lakes, and changing conditions. Jenny takes a hands-on approach in the field, helping participants refine composition, work with light, and make thoughtful decisions as scenes come together.
